Camille K:  Unfiltered, Unafraid, Unmistakably Herself

Posted: October 19, 2026
Being unfiltered does not mean having all the answers. Being unafraid does not mean never experiencing doubt. It means continuing forward despite those things—and having the courage to let the person behind the music remain visible.

There is a point in every artist’s journey when simply following the path in front of them is no longer enough. The expectations, comparisons, outside opinions and assumptions about who an artist should be can become distractions from the one thing that matters most: finding a voice that genuinely belongs to them. For Camille K, that journey is about discovering that voice and refusing to let expectations define where it can take her.

Music has always been more than simply creating songs. It is a way of communicating something that words alone cannot always express. For an artist, that can mean taking experiences, emotions and influences and turning them into something that connects with another person. Camille K approaches that process with an understanding that authenticity cannot be manufactured. It must come from somewhere real.

What makes an emerging artist compelling is often not how closely they fit into an existing mold, but how willing they are to move beyond it. Camille K represents that willingness. Rather than allowing a predetermined idea of what an artist should sound like or look like to dictate her direction, she is carving out a space where her individuality can become part of the music itself.

That does not mean the journey is always straightforward. Finding your identity as an artist can involve experimentation, uncertainty and moments when the direction forward is anything but obvious. Those moments can ultimately become some of the most important parts of the creative process. They force an artist to question what feels natural, what feels forced and, perhaps most importantly, what is worth holding onto.

For Camille K, the answer appears to be authenticity.

There is also something powerful about refusing to rush the process. In an industry that often places enormous pressure on artists to define themselves quickly, there is value in allowing creativity to evolve. An artist does not necessarily have to know exactly where the journey will end to take the next step. Sometimes the most interesting music comes from leaving room for discovery.

Camille’s story is therefore not simply about where she is today. It is about the artist she is continuing to become. Every song, performance and creative decision adds another piece to that identity.

And perhaps that is the most exciting part of the journey. An artist who is still discovering new possibilities has not reached a creative ceiling. There are still directions to explore, boundaries to challenge and stories waiting to be told.

For Camille K, finding her voice isn't about trying to sound like anyone else. It is about becoming increasingly comfortable with sounding like herself.

INTERVIEW WITH CAMILLE K AND GUITAR THRILLS MAGAZINE

Guitar Thrills: Your headline is “Unfiltered, Unafraid, Unmistakably Herself.” When you look at your journey as an artist, what does be unapologetically yourself mean to you?

Camille K: Throughout my journey, it has always been my mission to stay authentic, as remaining grounded in your mission and why you started as an artist gives you the confidence to create, evolve, take risks, and express yourself fearlessly. In a world full of constant comparison, it is important to remember that everyone has their own unique path. I first started singing even before I could speak, and my first professional gig was at 11 years old! Throughout the years, there have been different evolutions of my sound, and through time and effort, I have found my own style that continues to develop with every new song and performance.

Guitar Thrills: Was there a particular moment when you realized you didn’t want to follow someone else’s idea of what your music or career should look like?

Camille K: Since the beginning, I have always been a bit of a rebel when it comes to people telling me how I should or should not act or sound depending on whether I agree. This can be good or bad at times! What matters most is that whatever you do as an artist is true to you. Not every trend or expectation works for everyone!

Guitar Thrills: Your music reflects your individuality. How do you balance the influences that have shaped you with the desire to create something that is distinctly your own?

Camille K: It can be a lot to figure out! I grew up listening to a wide variety of music from soul and R&B to classic rock. My mom loved Sade, Nat King Cole, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, and those artists were the soundtrack to almost every evening spent with my family as a child. When I was around 5 or 6, I asked my dad to change the radio station from Disney to something he liked, and that’s when I fell in love with bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Guns & Roses, and Bad Company. Because the genres I loved as a child sit on opposite ends of the spectrum, it took me some time to explore each side and find my own style. My genre now is pop, but my soul/R&B and rock influences still come through in the songs I write and love to sing. I attribute finding my individual style to lots of practice, experimentation, learning new songs, broadening my horizons sonically, writing songs, and making songs/covers my own without copying the artist’s delivery. Tapping into your emotions and the story of the song also allows you to add your personal flair to the performance.

Guitar Thrills: Artists often go through periods of questioning their sound and direction. Have there been moments of uncertainty that ultimately helped you understand who you are as an Artist?

Camille K: Absolutely! Singing duets to classic love songs with my mom was my beginning, and then when I turned 7, classic rock became my everything. I got my first professional gig at 11 as the singer and rhythm guitarist in a Pink Floyd tribute band, but before that, I performed in several rock band camps, including ones at Music Training Center and School of Rock. I also toured with the Paul Green Rock Academy, opening for Jon Anderson of Yes at theaters in New Jersey, Tennessee, and Ohio. With most of my younger teen years spent singing rock, it was a big decision to pivot to pop. When I sat down at the piano and started writing songs, I discovered that pop was the genre I naturally gravitated to. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I also started a weekly livestream series called Live it Up Thursdays where I learned 5 new songs per week, performed them, and interviewed a special musical guest. I’m grateful I was able to use the lockdown as a time to hone my craft and develop my sound, which led me to the same conclusion genre-wise. I love how I still have the flexibility to imbue my soul/R&B and rock influences into the pop music I make.

Guitar Thrills: What emotions, experiences, or stories tend to inspire you most when you’re creating new music?

Camille K: When I write my songs, I’m influenced by whatever emotion I am feeling that day, whether it be love, heartbreak, or happiness, for instance. I also find inspiration in the books I read, the movies I watch, and everyday life. In fact, I recently wrote a song about a book I was reading called Circe! My songwriting process usually goes like this: I feel inspired by a particular emotion or idea, and then I hop on the piano or guitar and find a chord progression I like. Turning on voice memos on my phone helps me keep track of whatever melodies I hum or lyrics that naturally come out. That’s when the lyric writing begins! I love how music is such a powerful mode of storytelling. Not only is songwriting cathartic and healing for artists, but it also has the power to touch listeners’ hearts and let them know they are not alone in whatever life throws their way.

Guitar Thrills: In an industry where artists can sometimes feel pressure to fit into a particular image or sound, how important is it for you to maintain creative freedom?

Camille K: I think it is super important for artists to maintain creative freedom because no one knows an artist’s vision better than themselves. When you are authentically yourself, you attract people who love you for who you are. I believe the same goes for music! Right now, I am an independent artist and a college student, so it is just me with the help of my parents trying to navigate it all. Being independent lets me have full control over my creativity, so I can continue to explore and solidify my style and identity along the way.

Guitar Thrills: As you look ahead, what do you want people to understand about Camille that they may not hear simply by listening to your music?

Camille K: Something you might not know about me is that, as much as I love being on stage, I’m also someone who really values the quiet moments in life. Music has always been my way of expressing things I sometimes can’t put into words. Behind the performances and the music, I’m just a girl who’s constantly learning, growing, figuring life out, and chasing a dream I’ve had since I was little. Balancing being an independent artist and a full-time college student can be challenging, but I’ve always been up for a challenge lol! I’m still becoming the person and artist I want to be, and I’d love for you to be a part of this journey with me! Some more fun facts about me include that I’m a book, nature, and travel lover! I’m also a big foodie!

Finding Strength in Being Herself

In a world where artists are often encouraged to follow formulas, Camille K is taking a different approach. Her journey is not about fitting neatly into an existing category; it is about discovering what feels genuine and allowing that discovery to shape the music.

Being unfiltered does not mean having all the answers. Being unafraid does not mean never experiencing doubt. It means continuing forward despite those things—and having the courage to let the person behind the music remain visible.

For Camille, that authenticity may ultimately become her greatest creative strength. She is not simply building a career; she is creating an identity that belongs entirely to her. Unfiltered. Unafraid. Unmistakably herself.
