Córdoba Stage: Nylon-String Attitude Meets Modern Stagecraft

Posted: October 2, 2026
The Córdoba Stage isn't designed to replace a traditional classical guitar. Its appeal comes from doing something different: giving nylon-string players a modern, stage-oriented instrument that feels approachable, amplifies effectively and fits comfortably into a contemporary guitar rig.

The Sound: Where the Stage Really Makes Its Case

There are guitars that ask you to adapt to them, and then there are guitars that seem determined to meet you halfway. The Córdoba Stage belongs firmly in the second category.

Designed as a nylon-string instrument for amplified performance, the Stage takes the familiar voice of a nylon-string guitar and places it inside a distinctly modern platform. Its chambered mahogany body, solid spruce top, comfortable cutaway and slimmer Fusion-style neck give the guitar a personality that sits somewhere between a traditional classical instrument and an electric guitar.

That combination is what makes the Stage interesting.

Córdoba has long been associated with classical and flamenco guitars, but the Stage represents a different way of thinking about what a nylon-string guitar can be. The instrument was developed with live performance in mind, and its design reflects that purpose from the first time you pick it up.

Built for the Player Who Doesn't Want to Fight the Guitar

One of the first things that stands out about the Stage is its body. At only 38mm deep, the chambered mahogany construction makes the guitar considerably slimmer than a conventional classical guitar. The chambering also keeps the weight around five pounds while allowing the body to retain acoustic resonance.

The soft cutaway is another welcome feature. It gives the player much easier access to the upper register, making the Stage particularly comfortable for players who move beyond traditional first-position nylon-string playing.

But the neck may be the biggest revelation.

The Stage's 48mm nut is narrower than the traditional 52mm width found on many classical guitars. The C-shaped mahogany neck and 25.6-inch scale also contribute to a playing experience that feels familiar to steel-string and electric players.

For a guitarist accustomed to steel strings, that matters.

The Stage doesn't demand that you completely rethink your fretting-hand technique simply because you have moved to nylon strings. Chords, single-note lines, bends and melodic passages feel approachable, while the nylon strings provide a noticeably different sonic palette.

Unplugged, the Stage isn't trying to compete with a full-size classical guitar. Its relatively shallow chambered body simply isn't designed for that job.

And that's perfectly fine.

The Stage is fundamentally an amplified instrument.

Plug it in, however, and the guitar's purpose becomes much clearer.

Córdoba developed the Stage pickup system in collaboration with Fishman. The system combines an undersaddle piezo pickup with body sensors, allowing the player to blend the direct pickup sound with resonance captured from the body.

That Body Blend control is particularly useful.

Rather than simply accepting the often-hard-edged character associated with amplified piezo systems, the player can introduce more of the body's natural character into the amplified signal. The result is considerably more flexible than a basic undersaddle pickup.

The EQ control also gives the guitarist additional control over the instrument's amplified personality. This becomes particularly useful when moving between different amplifiers, PA systems and live environments.

For a guitarist playing live, that's valuable territory.

A Nylon Guitar That Makes Sense on a Stage

The name "Stage" isn't marketing decoration. It describes exactly what Córdoba was trying to accomplish.

Amplified nylon-string guitars can present a difficult problem for performers. Traditional microphones can sound beautiful, but they can also introduce feedback and restrict movement. Piezo systems solve some of those problems but can introduce their own tonal compromises.

The Stage takes a different approach.

Its hybrid pickup system is designed to provide a more natural amplified nylon-string sound while maintaining the feedback resistance needed for live performance.

That makes the guitar particularly interesting for musicians who need nylon-string sounds while performing with other amplified instruments.

It's also a compelling crossover instrument. A steel-string guitarist who has always liked the sound of nylon strings but struggled with the wider neck of a traditional classical guitar may find the Stage considerably more approachable.

Looks That Don't Feel Like an Afterthought

The Stage also manages to avoid looking like a traditional classical guitar with electronics simply added afterward.

The solid spruce top is finished with a flamed maple veneer, while the chambered mahogany body gives the instrument a distinctive modern profile.

The black-and-gold hardware and minimalist controls reinforce the contemporary appearance.

There is something visually appealing about the contrast: traditional nylon strings and a classical-style bridge paired with an instrument body that looks perfectly comfortable standing beside an electric guitar.

The Playing Experience

Perhaps the greatest strength of the Stage is that it doesn't feel like a compromise.

It isn't attempting to become a full classical guitar.

It isn't trying to become an electric guitar.

Instead, Córdoba has created an instrument that occupies the space between the two.

The neck is familiar enough for players coming from steel-string instruments. The body is comfortable enough for extended playing. The cutaway encourages exploration of the upper register. And once connected to an amplifier, the Córdoba/Fishman electronics provide the flexibility necessary for real-world performance.

There are, naturally, tradeoffs. If your primary goal is maximum acoustic volume and projection from an unplugged nylon-string guitar, a traditional full-bodied classical instrument is likely to offer a different experience. The Stage's design prioritizes portability, ergonomics and amplified performance.

That's not a weakness so much as a definition of purpose.

Pros & Cons

Pros

Excellent stage-oriented design — The slim, chambered body is comfortable to play while remaining practical for live performance.

Approachable neck profile — The 48mm nut width and C-shaped neck make the Stage particularly accessible to steel-string and electric guitar players.

Versatile amplified sound — The Córdoba/Fishman pickup system combines an undersaddle piezo with body sensors for greater tonal flexibility.

Useful Body Blend control — This allows players to add more of the guitar's natural acoustic character to the amplified signal.

Upper-fret accessibility — The soft cutaway makes it easier to explore the higher register.

Lightweight construction — At approximately five pounds, the Stage is comfortable for extended playing and performance.

Modern appearance — The combination of spruce, flamed maple veneer, chambered mahogany and contemporary hardware gives it a distinctive visual identity.

Excellent crossover potential — Players accustomed to electric or steel-string guitars can transition to nylon strings without adapting to the full dimensions of a traditional classical guitar.

Cons

Limited unplugged volume — The shallow chambered body is not intended to compete acoustically with a traditional full-size classical guitar.

Less traditional classical feel — Players looking specifically for the wider neck and larger body of a conventional classical instrument may find the Stage less familiar.

Electronics are central to its design — Much of the guitar's appeal comes from its amplified performance, so it may not be the ideal choice for someone primarily interested in playing nylon string acoustically.

Distinctly modern rather than traditional — Players seeking a vintage or strictly classical aesthetic may prefer a more conventional Córdoba model.

Pickup-dependent tonal character — As with many amplified acoustic instruments, achieving the most natural live sound may require some adjustment of the EQ and Body Blend controls to suit the amplifier or PA system.

Final Thoughts

The Córdoba Stage is an interesting reminder that guitar design doesn't have to remain trapped inside traditional categories.

It takes the warmth and articulation associated with nylon strings and puts them into a body that feels considerably more familiar to contemporary electric and steel-string players. The slim chambered construction, crossover-friendly neck and Córdoba/Fishman electronics all work toward the same goal: making nylon-string tone practical in a modern performance environment.

For the guitarist who wants to add nylon-string color to a live rig without completely changing the way they approach the instrument, the Stage makes a compelling case for itself.

More than anything, it feels like Córdoba asked a simple question: What if a nylon-string guitar were designed from the beginning for the way modern guitarists actually perform?

The Stage is the answer.

Guitar Thrills Magazine — Editor's Take

The Córdoba Stage isn't designed to replace a traditional classical guitar. Its appeal comes from doing something different: giving nylon-string players a modern, stage-oriented instrument that feels approachable, amplifies effectively and fits comfortably into a contemporary guitar rig.

For players looking beyond the conventional boundaries of the nylon-string guitar, the Stage deserves a serious look.
