Purveyor - person or thing that habitually provides or supplies a particular thing or quality.

That is how Dan Patlansky defines himself. Purvey, or purveyor sometimes is used in with negative overtones. It can also mean that some is selling you on a ton of lies or is misleading you in some way. This blues artist is a purvey of high quality and respected globally. Dan has been crushing the blues genre for over 10 years.  There is a limited number of artists that are selected to open for the BOSS. Can you imagine being the opening act for Bruce Springsteen? Indeed, performing before 85,000 people would make any artist shutter.

Though Dan is Ice cold, and he performs with purpose. Brilliantly executing electric and acoustic blues since 1999. When I first started listening to Dan Patlansky, I immediately thought of Stevie Ray Vaughn. His vocals are chillingly reflective of Chris Cornell. If you think I am throwing around words for the benefit of Dan Patlansky, listen to his music yourself. Experience the power of his earth shattering ability to perform the blues.

Who wouldn’t want to have the ability to perform like each artist. In my book, it is difficult to come near the level of either performer. However, Dan Patlansky has managed to accomplish it. How? Well, this is one of the reasons why he is our guest today.

INTERVIEW WITH DAN PATLANSKY AND GUITAR THRILLS MAGAZINE

Guitar Thrills: Hello Dan. Thank you for joining me today. I was thrilled to hear your albums. I thought I had a “beat” on all the talented blues artists in the world. However, you managed to creep in under the radar.

How did you get started as a blues artist?

Dan: It all started through my parents amazing album collection which had a ton of blues music in it. They listened to music all the time when i was growing up, so when it came time to start playing the blues seemed like the most natural path.

Guitar Thrills: I compared you to Stevie Ray Vaughn, was he an inspiration to you along your career path?

Dan: Yes, SRV has without a doubt has been the most dominant force when it comes to inspiration, and still remains that way after the last 25 years or so.

Guitar Thrills: Though I made some comparisons between you and other artists, you do have a unique sound to your voice. There is so much truth to it. What do you reflect upon for your creativity? The lyrics must come from somewhere deep.

Dan: On this new album all the lyrics were co written by my band mates, but it worked really well because we all were on the same page. I like to write about stuff relevant to my life, so true emotion can come out and I feel it will be far more believable to the listener.

Guitar Thrills: There are a ton of blues artists in the world. I have interviewed many with distinctive qualities. What makes you different from other blues artists?

Dan: I feel the blues is all about the way you interpret and feel it , and we all do that in a slightly different way. For me personally I love drawing from other genres that i love and try make it fit with the blues. That can bring about really cool sounds sometimes.

Guitar Thrills: Do you collaborate with other artists?

Dan: Not as much as I would like to. The colabs mostly happen on the song writing process, which is so great to have other like minded people who share a vision chipping in.

Guitar Thrills: Who are some of the blues artists, that you have had a chance to perform with?

Dan: Walter Trout, King King, The Batiste Brothers, Alan & Stevie Nimmo, Joe Satriani, Bruce Springsteen

Guitar Thrills: I know you opened for the BOSS. How did that come about? Did he have any words of wisdom to share with you?

Dan: That was so epic! 85,000 people. The local promoter presented us not excepting anything as Bruce rarely has supports, and it seemed Bruce was happy to have us. Only got to chat to very briefly after the show, but he watched the whole show from the wings of the stage.

Guitar Thrills: What do you think of modern blues players? Is there any that impress you?

Dan: I feel we are in an exciting era of modern players. Guys like Philip Sayce, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Gales, Josh Smith are setting the bar extremely high!!!

Guitar Thrills: What guitar do you play, and why?

Dan: Ive always been a strat man my whole life. Most of my favorite players and tones have played them. So now I'm at a point where I’ve played Strats for so long that other guitar feel completely strange and unplayable to me.

Guitar Thrills: Do you rely upon pedals?

Dan: I do to be honest but not very many pedals. I use a 4 pedal setup. Honeybee Clean or Mathis Audio Tech OD Texas Tone as an always on pedal, this allows me to keep my amp at a reasonable level. Then King tone soloist , MI Audio Blues Boy, Strymon Flint. For my needs this is perfect.

Guitar Thrills: What is the best guitar and amp combination that you have used?

Dan: So the current rig Im using is blowing me away. Its my Blue Custom shop strat with King tone Blue bird pickups, into my sig Honeybee 40watt head. Something very special going on there and it translates to all venues and studios beautifully

Guitar Thrills: I want to thank you for taking the time to answer some questions. I guarantee that I will follow through with your achievements in the music industry. You are a polarizing artist. Please keep in touch.

Dan: Thanks a lot man
