INTERVIEW WITH LARISSA LIVEIR AND GUITAR THRILLS MAGAZINE
Career & Background
Guitar Thrills: Can you tell us how your journey with the guitar began and what inspired you to pursue it seriously?
Larissa: My journey began very early. When I was 7, I realized something about myself: I was completely in love with the guitar, even without ever having played one. It all started when I saw guitars in video games — my first “guitar” was the one from Guitar Hero, and it was my favorite game. I couldn’t wait to hold a real guitar in my arms and feel what it was like to play it. I got an acoustic guitar for Christmas, and I haven’t let it go ever since. It’s the love of my life. I started pursuing it seriously when people began watching me on the internet and my videos started going viral. That’s when I saw the chance to make a living from it and turn what I love most into my actual profession.
Guitar Thrills: You originally studied engineering and architecture. How did those experiences shape your approach to music? Larissa: It made me realize I hate math… (just kidding! Haha). I tried to pursue those careers because, in my world back in those days, it felt like it was impossible to become a rockstar. That would be considered a crazy or stupid idea. I came from a small town in Brazil, so I tried to follow what was “normal” in my reality. I like art and design, so I think that was why I chose architecture. But I remember saying, right before going to college: if I could do anything for the rest of my life, it would be music. So, I’m forever grateful that everything fell into place.
Musical Style & Technique
Guitar Thrills: Your playing blends rock, metal, and blues—how do you approach developing your own style while honoring the classics?
Larissa: It has been a challenge to write my own material because I’m building a blend of those three styles and creating my own voice. I’m letting myself be free to explore and find my own balance between all those styles. I believe every player has a unique “voice,” so more than fitting into a specific style, the most important thing is to share my voice and feelings through my guitar.
Guitar Thrills: What’s your practice routine like, and how do you challenge yourself to keep evolving technically and creatively?
Larissa: One thing that’s always part of my routine is learning songs for my videos. I like to learn the songs exactly how it is played, and I always make sure to watch all the live versions too. Studying other players teaches you so much, their phrasing, their feel, their ideas, and it naturally inspires you to develop your own voice. I also dedicate time to technique exercises to build resistance and precision. And lately I’ve been diving deep into music theory, especially blues. Blues is the foundation of most of the music I love, so understanding it on a deeper level helps me shape my own sound and create original material.
Social Media & Influence
Guitar Thrills: You’ve built a huge following on YouTube and TikTok. How do you balance creating content with maintaining your artistic integrity?
Larissa: Sometimes it’s hard to balance the content creator side and the “just a musician” side of me. With social media, you can’t really stop creating, so even when all I want is to sit in my room and practice, I still must find extra time to stay active online. It takes a lot of organization and discipline to build a routine that works. Balancing content creation, studying music, practicing guitar, writing original material, and being my own producer and businesswoman is complicated haha.
Guitar Thrills: How do you see your role as a female guitarist influencing young musicians in Latin America and worldwide?
Larissa: I think it’s amazing to have the chance to inspire other people, especially other girls. I still remember playing Guitar Hero and loving “Barracuda” by Heart, because it was the only song with a woman singing. That moment was huge for me, it was the first time I felt like, “Wow, someone like me can be up there.” Back then, there weren’t many women in the rock scene. We mostly heard songs about girls, not songs by girls. And now, the girls who used to be just in the lyrics are stepping onstage, playing guitar, and making rock music themselves.
So, I’m grateful that young girls today can look up to women in this industry, and if I can be one of those references for them, that means the world to me. I hope I can open more space for women in rock, especially Latin women and Brazilian girls, and help show that there’s absolutely no limit to what we can do.
Collaborations & Industry Work
Guitar Thrills: You’ve partnered with brands like Marshall, Gibson, and Epiphone. How do these collaborations influence your music and your connection with fans?
Larissa: Having brands like Marshall and Gibson supporting my work is truly a dream come true. They’ve always been my favorite brands, and to me they represent the real essence of rock ’n’ roll. My sound has improved drastically, and I feel so much more confident playing with such a well-crafted instrument like a Gibson guitar. And I love being able to share that with my followers. They trust me, so it feels good to recommend gear I genuinely use and believe in and help them make better choices for their own playing.
Guitar Thrills: Can you share a memorable moment or lesson from performing with your band, Honey Bomb, or from your solo projects?
Larissa: I’m not in Honey Bomb Band anymore, but the whole idea of joining a local band was to get stage experience, and I did. I learned so much by playing in local pubs and bars, and I believe that’s something every musician should go through. Now I have my own band, and I’m doing live performances with them, I built my own show completely from scratch. I see every rehearsal and every show as an opportunity to grow and understand how things really work on stage (and backstage). I developed so much of my stage presence during those years of “training,” and I also learned a lot about the production side while producing my performance at Best of Blues and Rock alongside an amazing team. Sharing the stage with incredible musicians like Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, and many others was an unforgettable and enriching experience. I know there’s still so much more to learn, and I can’t wait!
Perspective & Inspiration
Guitar Thrills: Who are your biggest musical influences, and what do you try to take from them while making your own mark?
Larissa: That’s a question I always think twice before answering, haha. So many bands and musicians have inspired me and shaped the musician I am today. But if I had to choose, my biggest band influences would be Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, and Led Zeppelin. And when it comes to guitarists whose playing style inspires me, I’d say Joe Bonamassa, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Santana.
Guitar Thrills: Looking ahead, what goals or projects are you most excited about, and how do you hope to continue shaping the future of guitar music?
Larissa: I’m so excited to share my own music with the world. I’m working on my songs and shaping my own identity as an artist. I plan to keep recording the videos my followers know and love, but what I want most is to keep expanding my career, make music videos with my songs, play on big stages, and continue growing to become the best guitarist I can be. And of course, keep Rock ’n’ Roll alive!
And before we wrap up, I just want to leave a warning to everyone who follows my work: there are many fake accounts and scammers pretending to be me, especially on Facebook. I never reach out privately asking for money, personal information, or anything like that. Please make sure you’re following my official pages, I don’t have telegram or message apps, please stay safe online. Thank you for the love and support and thank you Guitar Thrills for having me!
