Alright, let’s get your HOTONE Ampero Control working with Reaper—one step at a time.
Step 1: Plug it in
First things first—grab a USB cable and connect your Ampero Control to your computer. Reaper should notice it right away and list it as a MIDI device (you’ll probably see something like “Ampero Control” pop up).
Step 2: Let Reaper know you want to use it
Now let’s tell Reaper to actually use the thing.
1. In Reaper, go up to Options > Preferences (or just hit Ctrl +
P).
2. On the left side, click on MIDI Devices.
3. Under the Input section, find Ampero Control, right-click it, and choose:
Enable Input
Enable Input for Control Messages (this is super important if you want to use the buttons to control stuff in Reaper).
4. Click Apply, and you're good to go!
Final Thoughts
The HOTONE Ampero Control is a super handy little tool if you’re looking for a compact, no-fuss way to control your gear via MIDI. It’s small enough to fit on just about any pedalboard, but still packs a surprising amount of power—especially when it comes to customization and flexibility.
If you're after something that’s budget-friendly, lightweight, and easy to carry around, this is a solid choice. The buttons can do a lot once you get it all setup, and it plays nicely with a range of devices.
That said, Bluetooth on computers can be a bit hit or miss—some folks have run into connection issues or a bit of lag. So if you plan to use it wirelessly, be ready to tinker a bit. Bottom line? If you want something portable, affordable, and don’t need a screen, the Ampero Control is a great little sidekick. Just be prepared to spend a little time dialing it in.
