Sylvya Boschiero: Finding Her Voice Beyond the Strings

Posted: October 11, 2026
The road to becoming a distinctive musician is rarely straightforward. It is shaped by the artists who inspire us, the people who challenge us, the performances that go right, and the ones that don't. I

There is a point in every guitarist’s journey when playing an instrument becomes something more than technique. The notes begin to carry personality. The tone becomes recognizable. The guitar stops being simply an instrument and becomes part of the artist’s identity. For Sylvya Boschiero, that relationship with the guitar is rooted in expression, individuality, and the continual pursuit of her own sound.

What makes a guitarist memorable is not necessarily how many notes they can play. It is what they choose to say with them. Boschiero’s approach reflects the idea that musicianship is about more than technical ability—it is about developing a voice that can stand on its own. Every player absorbs influences along the way, but eventually the challenge becomes separating those influences from the person holding the guitar.

For an artist, that process can be both exciting and demanding. Finding an authentic musical identity often means experimenting, making mistakes, changing direction, and refusing to remain confined to expectations. The guitar can provide the framework, but the artist ultimately decides where the music goes.

Boschiero’s journey also speaks to the evolving role of the guitarist in contemporary music. Guitarists are no longer expected to fit neatly into a single category. A musician can move between styles, incorporate different influences, explore new sounds, and still maintain a recognizable identity. That freedom creates an opportunity to approach the instrument from a deeply personal perspective.

There is also something inherently human about the guitar. Unlike instruments that can sometimes feel separated from the performer, the guitar is held close to the body. Fingers interact directly with strings, bends reveal emotion, and even small variations in touch can change the character of a performance. For a guitarist searching for individuality, those details matter.

The road to becoming a distinctive musician is rarely straightforward. It is shaped by the artists who inspire us, the people who challenge us, the performances that go right, and the ones that don't. It is shaped by persistence. Most importantly, it is shaped by the willingness to continue evolving.

For Boschiero, the guitar represents that ongoing evolution—a place where technique and emotion can meet, where influences can be transformed rather than simply copied, and where an artist can continue discovering what she has to say.

Ultimately, being a guitarist is not about proving that you can play the instrument. It is about discovering what only you can bring to it.

INTERVIEW WITH SYLVVA BOSCHIERO AND GUITAR THRILLS MAGAZINE

Guitar Thrills: What first inspired you to pick up the guitar, and what was it about the instrument that immediately connected with you?

Sylvya Boschiero: I started playing the guitar when I was 12 or 13 years old. I was already listening to a lot of music as a little girl, but what made me fall in love with the instrument was a video of a live performance by a local guitarist who played the solo of "Sultans of Swing" magically. Blown away by the masterful beauty of that song, I decided to take lessons and realized it was a happy place where I could disconnect from everything

Guitar Thrills: How would you describe the evolution of your playing from when you first started to where you are today?

Sylvya Boschiero:It is difficult to describe it all in just a few lines. What I can say is that I have always been very curious to discover new genres and techniques. Over the years, I've played in several different bands and tried to perform as much as possible, always pushing myself out of my comfort zone to grow as a musician until I found my own voice—which will continue to evolve. I believe the instrument is a deeply intimate part of you that evolves in parallel with your own life.

Guitar Thrills: Every guitarist eventually develops a recognizable voice. What do you think has been most important in helping you develop yours?

Sylvya Boschiero: I've always tried to play things I actually enjoyed, though and be honest to myself. Being in situations outside of tribute or cover bands. In Italy, hard rock/progressive/crossover music aren't very popular now, so to gain live experience I played in various tribute or cover bands; while I still enjoyed playing the tracks we performed, I felt something was missing. At a certain point, I started feeling uncomfortable on stage. As a result, I began writing for myself, and only this year have I ventured into working on third-party productions and my own project—finally bringing my own voice to light. It feels like laying yourself completely bare.

Guitar Thrills: Who are some of the guitarists or musicians who have influenced you, and what have you taken from their approach to music?

Sylvya Boschiero: I've been influenced by several musicians: it goes without saying that Nuno Bettencourt and Eddie Van Halen have been my ultimate pioneers in recent years, but I've drawn and continue to draw inspiration from other guitarists like Dimebag Darrell, Steve Morse, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Andy Timmons, George Lynch, Eric Johnson, Mark Knopfler, Sergey Golovin, and many more.

Guitar Thrills: How do you balance technique with emotion when you are performing or creating music?

Sylvya Boschiero: In live performances, it depends a lot on my mood and the audience. It really depends on the situation there are times when I have a lot of energy and feel pure joy, so brighter, upbeat tracks reflect how I feel more on those days. On bad days, on the other hand, I feel closer to slow, introspective songs. However, I perform best when I'm on a high-energy wavelength; I love distorted riffs, along with majestic, upbeat sounds that reflect my personality. Plus, the audience helps a lot when performing: an active, engaged audience makes the whole experience even more magical.

When writing, the process is different: I usually just start playing without any rules, recording whatever comes out without thinking too much about it, and see if I catch something interesting. Sometimes I'll hum a little melody in my head, but it usually all happens on days when I'm feeling particularly happy and positive.

Guitar Thrills: What has been one of the biggest challenges you have faced as a guitarist, and how did that experience change you as a musician?

Sylvya Boschiero: Definitely, the biggest challenge hasn't been so much about guitar skill itself, but rather about self-esteem and believing in oneself. That is the fundamental key to achieving anything. If you don't have confidence in yourself, everything feels insurmountable.

On top of that, I've carefully weighed my choices, trying to pursue what I felt were real opportunities for growth by stepping out of my comfort zone, so any new situation was extremely demanding, both emotionally and in terms of sacrifices.

However, the experience that completely changed how I view the instrument was playing alongside my favorite guitarist. It opened my eyes to how unique each of us can be in our own way, and that playing music shouldn't always feel like an exam. Being on stage isn't easy because you're often afraid of letting people down, but the best feeling is when you free yourself from the idea that the audience is there to judge you. There will always be someone who doesn't connect with what you do or simply won't like it. What truly matters is what you feel and how you are in that moment that's essential, otherwise it just becomes torture.

Guitar Thrills: When people hear Sylvya Boschiero play guitar, what do you hope they hear or feel that tells them, “This is her”?

Sylvya Boschiero: I would always like to bring joy and lightness (not superficiality) to the listener, as well as moments of introspection. My playing and tone are very diverse and constantly evolving, right in step with my personal growth.

Conclusion

Sylvya Boschiero’s story is ultimately about the search for individuality. The guitar may provide the strings, frets, and familiar language, but the artist determines what that language becomes. Through experience, influence, experimentation, and persistence, a guitarist develops something that cannot simply be taught—a personal voice.

For Boschiero, that voice continues to evolve. And perhaps that is what makes the journey so compelling. There is always another sound to discover, another idea to explore, and another way to make six strings say something meaningful.
