For years, music fans have heard the same warning: "Never meet your heroes."

It's a phrase that has become deeply rooted in the music industry, built on stories of disappointing encounters, inflated egos, broken promises, and artists whose behavior overshadowed their talent. Somewhere along the way, many fans accepted the idea that incredible music and exceptional character simply couldn't coexist.

We refuse to accept that narrative.

The music industry has struggled with character issues for decades. We've watched remarkable careers rise to incredible heights, only to be diminished by poor decisions, damaged relationships, and reputations that outlived the music itself. While talent may open doors, character determines how long those doors remain open.

When I founded Guitar Thrills Magazine, I made a conscious decision that our publication would be different. Rather than focusing solely on album releases or promotional talking points, I began writing about the importance of integrity, humility, professionalism, gratitude, and the qualities that define outstanding character.

The response was overwhelming.


Artists embraced those conversations because they were authentic. They weren't the standard interview questions that had been asked a hundred times before. They challenged musicians to talk about who they were as people—not just performers. Those discussions created genuine relationships, opened doors I never expected, and even led to the privilege of connecting with ten-time Grammy Award winner George Benson. That experience reinforced something I've believed ever since: authenticity creates opportunities that marketing alone never can.

Those lessons became the foundation for what would eventually become On Cue Media Group.

Our mission extends far beyond securing interviews, booking performances, or generating publicity.

We exist to help represent artists whose actions match their message.

Every artist has a brand, whether they intentionally build one or not. Every interaction with a fan, journalist, venue owner, promoter, photographer, or fellow musician contributes to that brand. Social media posts disappear into timelines, but reputations remain. People remember how they were treated long after they forget the details of a concert or interview.



That is why we believe public relations is about far more than publicity.

It is about credibility.

We want fans to feel confident that when On Cue Media Group represents an artist, they are meeting someone who values professionalism, respects the people around them, and understands that success is measured by far more than streaming numbers or ticket sales.

Trust cannot be manufactured.

It must be earned consistently through actions, decisions, and relationships.

The artists who enjoy the longest and most fulfilling careers understand this. They recognize that every conversation, every handshake, every interview, and every fan interaction is an opportunity to strengthen their legacy rather than weaken it.

While some musicians experience rapid success, fame alone cannot sustain a career. History has repeatedly shown that a poor reputation eventually catches up with even the most talented performers. Opportunities become fewer, partnerships disappear, and audiences begin to look elsewhere.

Talent may create momentum.

Character creates longevity.

That philosophy is at the heart of everything we do.

Our goal isn't simply to place artists in front of audiences. It's to help position them as professionals people genuinely want to support, work with, and remember for all the right reasons.

Perhaps it's time we retire the phrase, "Never meet your heroes."

Instead, let's build a music industry where fans leave those encounters saying, "They were even better than I imagined."

That is the standard we believe artists should strive for.

And that is why On Cue Media Group exists.



One of the greatest traps intelligent people fall into is believing intelligence is something to display rather than something to develop. The moment learning stops, growth begins to decline. Arrogance has ended more careers than ignorance ever could because arrogance convinces us there's nothing left to learn.

Every room contains four kinds of people.

There's the Talker, who always has an opinion whether it's informed or not.

The Reactor, who waits to see which way the conversation is going before joining in.

The Observer, who listens carefully, gathers information, and identifies patterns.

Then there's the Contributor—the person who doesn't measure success by airtime but by adding value. They speak with purpose. They ask thoughtful questions. They improve ideas instead of competing with them.

Become the Contributor.

Every accomplished guitarist eventually discovers that speed alone doesn't make a solo memorable. Feeling does. Timing does. Space does. Sometimes the note you don't play is every bit as important as the one you do. Conversation works exactly the same way. Constant talking leaves no room for ideas to resonate. Thoughtful pauses create space for insight.



Before speaking in your next meeting, ask yourself five simple questions.

Will this move the conversation forward?

Is my opinion supported by facts?

Am I helping solve the problem?

Have I listened long enough to fully understand the issue?

Will the room genuinely be better because I said this?

If the answer is no, listening may be the smarter decision.

After years in conference rooms, interviews, rehearsal halls, and recording studios, I've come to believe we've been asking the wrong question all along.

Instead of asking, "How can I become the smartest person in the room?"

Perhaps we should be asking,

"How can I become the person the room trusts most?"

Because trust changes everything.

Trust earns influence.

Trust builds teams.

Trust creates better music.

Trust strengthens organizations.

Trust outlasts talent.

The irony is that the people who spend the most energy convincing everyone they're the smartest person in the room usually aren't. The people who truly possess that distinction rarely feel the need to announce it. Their preparation speaks. Their humility speaks. Their questions speak. Their decisions speak. Most importantly, their results speak.

So, does it matter to be the smartest person in the room?

Yes—but probably not for the reasons most people think.

What matters is becoming the person whose presence makes every room better. The one who raises the level of the discussion. The one who listens before speaking. The one who challenges ideas without attacking people. The one who continues learning long after success has arrived. The one people trust when the stakes are highest.

Long after everyone has forgotten who spoke the most, they'll remember who made the biggest difference.

And perhaps that's what being the smartest person in the room has meant all along.
